We just returned from business/pleasure trip to FL. I left my work computer in MI and it was a great decision. I am really trying to walk the line of making sure my kids get my full attention and that can be difficult when I work in a blended learning environment. But I did it and I was able to wrap up work things when I got home tonight.
I'm deeming Thursdays as Thankful Teacher Thursdays. So here are five things I am thankful for on this Thursday:
- The sunshine of Florida - It was rejuvenating to have some sunshine in my life before heading back to the arctic north!
- Clicking with a student. I have had trouble getting one particular student motivated to complete work and nothing seemed to be working. Then the day before we left I had a furious conversation via text. It seems that my conversation might have worked because tonight I had my first exchange with him about work - economics as a matter of fact! I am hopeful that this is a turning point with him.
- Professional courtesy. My colleagues were gracious enough to let me have a true vacation. It was the first I had had in a year and I truly appreciated them making the effort to not contact me!
- My little girls. I am blessed to learn from my children important lessons to incorporate in my teaching. I adapted a Curiosity Project for my program because my girls look at the world with wonder and that was completely true in Florida. Dolphins and seashells were huge sources of curiosity on this trip!
- Communication tools. Even with being gone from my program this week I had tools at my fingertips tonight to reconnect. Google Voice, Google Hangouts, email, and project review were all at my disposal tonight.
Thankful teacher here! Yours in education,
~Sarah
